Craig Martin

Craig Martin is a lawyer and legal scholar, and is currently Associate Professor of Law at Washburn University School of Law. He has studied and taught law in the U.S., Canada, and Japan, and has a doctorate in law from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. His areas of interest are international law, particularly the laws on recourse to war and the use of armed force, and comparative constitutional law, with a focus on Japanese and Anglo-American law. Before turning to law, he studied history and strategic studies at the Royal Military College of Canada. He was a Naval Officer in the Canadian Forces, during which time he served as Naval attaché at the United Nations, working on disarmament and peacekeeping issues. After leaving the service, he received an LL.M. from Osaka University in Japan, and his J.D. from the University of Toronto. He practiced civil litigation for several years in Toronto, Canada, before undertaking his doctorate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Martin has published scholarly work on a range of issues, including international law and the use of armed force, and Japanese constitutional law, and he frequently publishes articles on related issues in the wider media.
