TruCon17: Send Your Mission
With American values under assault and a retreat from leadership in the world underway, Truman Center for National Policy and Truman National Security Project are gearing up to fight for our worldview like never before. TruCon17, Truman’s annual conference, will be held from Friday June 23rd to Sunday June 25th at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center. We would like to invite you to be part of our community’s dialogue.
This year, our conference is named for the motto of the 129th Field Artillery Regiment—Harry Truman’s own U.S. Army unit, whose unconditional, matter-of-fact ethos of “Send Your Mission” served them well as they fought across Europe throughout World War I 100 years ago. Regardless of the ferocity of their enemies or the brutality of conditions on the ground, the 129th persisted in whatever they were asked to do. They fought because they believed in their cause. And while our sacrifices are nowhere near theirs, the time in which we live demand a similar strength of conviction. We too are gearing up to fight for our worldview like never before.
On Friday June 23rd—our public day, open to members of the broader progressive movement and the press—we will convene to take stock of foreign policy and national security in the context of the new administration while hearing from speakers in and out of the community who live and lead with their values at the local, state, and national levels. Then, on Saturday June 24th and Sunday June 25th, our members will collaborate to build the bench, learning from each other as well as outside professionals how best to engage in the policy, politics, and protection work of the coming four years. The end result? A motivated, empowered community of leaders across the nation ready to stand together for what they believe in.
