Truman Project Statement on AG Barr’s Summary of Special Counsel Mueller’s Report

Washington, DC – Following Attorney General William Barr’s summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report being sent to leaders in Congress on Sunday, Truman President and CEO Jenna Ben-Yehuda issued the following statement:

“Truman calls on Attorney General Barr to release the entire Mueller report, and all accompanying documents, to Congress and the American people now. Doing so is the first step towards allaying concerns that the attorney general is sweeping the question of obstruction of justice—on which Special Counsel Mueller explicitly did not exonerate the president—under the rug. Notably, prior to being hand-picked by President Trump to lead the Justice Department, AG Barr wrote a June 2018 memo that specifically attacked the special counsel’s investigation of this question.”

“This should not be a partisan request. We support the House of Representatives’ recent unanimous vote that called for transparency around this report. Now is the time for each member to reiterate that expectation by demanding that AG Barr both release the documents and testify on his judgement. Moreover, it is in the clear interest of the American people to see the full accounting of Russia’s attack on our democracy so that we can defend against similar threats in 2020 and beyond.”

“Finally, leaders in Congress must continue to conduct oversight of this administration and continue to make requests for relevant information, documents, and testimony.”
