Brett Holmgren currently serve as Chief of Staff and Senior Policy Advisor to the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security & Counterterrorism. He previously served as Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter. From 2011-13, he was a Director for Counterterrorism (CT) on the National Security Council, responsible for CT policy in the Arabian Peninsula and West Africa. Prior to the White House, he was a senior analyst at the CIAðs Counterterrorism Center focused on the Middle East and Africa. He began his career in 2003 at the Defense Intelligence Agency. Brett earned a B.A. in journalism and political science from the University of Wisconsin, and a M.A. in global security studies from Johns Hopkins University. Heðs originally from Minnesota.
