Jongsun A. Kim is an Asia-Pacific regional specialist. Currently, Jongsun works as a Professional Staff Member on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI), which oversees all intelligence activities of the U.S. Government. She also serves as a designee to Senator Mikulski, who is a senior member of the SSCI and Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations. Prior to joining the Senate, Jongsun was appointed to the Office of the Secretary of Defense as Special Assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia where she served as a Country Director for Korea in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy, Asian and Pacific Security Affairs and the premier U.S. - Republic of Korea Alliance manager for the U.S. Department of Defense. Prior to her political appointment, Jongsun served for over seven years with the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) Office of Asia-Pacific Analysis as the Senior Intelligence Analyst in the Joint Chiefs of Staff Pakistan-Afghanistan Coordination Cell. During this time, she served on the National Security Council Staff as a senior manager in the White House Situation Room, deployed to Afghanistan, and participated in a North Korea crisis management unit. She began her career in the federal government as a National Intelligence Scholar. Prior to federal service, Jongsun worked as a social and economic policy analyst at Abt Associates, Inc., and as a Governor's Aide in the New Jersey Office of the Governor. Jongsun holds a masterÕs degree from Harvard University and the National Intelligence University, and a B.A. from Wellesley College. She received a certificate from Korea UniversityÕs Language and Culture Center and studied abroad at the University of Edinburgh. She is the recipient of the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Medal, and U.S. Secretary of Defense Medal for the Global War on Terrorism.
