Truman Project Statement on the Legislation to Protect Special Counsel Mueller from a Politically-Motivated Firing

Washington, DC – Today, after the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act, Truman Project President and CEO Michael Breen issued the following statement:

“This bill is bipartisan, bicameral, and in the clear national security interest of the United States. Protecting Special Counsel Mueller from a politically-motivated firing is essential to preventing further foreign interference in our elections in 2018, 2020, and beyond.”

“Today’s vote represents a recognition of duty to country above partisan politics. Now, it is up to leaders of principle on both sides of the aisle to demand that Majority Leader McConnell bring this common-sense legislation to the Senate floor.”
