Response to Mary Bono Mack’s Misleading Claims about America’s National Security

Washington, DC – Today, the Truman National Security Project released the following statement by Communications Director Dave Solimini in response to Rep. Mary Bono Mack’s misleading claims about America’s safety in the wake of Libya during a recent debate with Candidate Dr. Raul Ruiz.
“Mary Bono Mack does not understand national security. With Bin Laden dead, the Iraq war over, Qaddafi out of power and the ongoing pursuit of terrorists across the globe, it is clear that we are safer now than we were four years ago. The terrorist attack on our consulate in Libya was tragic and the President will undoubtedly bring those extremists to justice, just as he has with senior al Qaeda leaders. Over the past four years, he has ruthlessly taken out 23 of the top 30 al Qaeda leaders and gone after our enemies no matter where they are.
“At the end of the day, what matters is how we stay safe. The President’s approach clearly shows that he has had made the hard decisions needed to strengthen our national security and protect our country.”
