WASHINGTON, DC — In response to attacks on President Obama’s national security strengths by the Special Operations Opsec Education Fund, Truman Project Senior Adviser Mark Jacobson released the following:

“Any attempt to say that the military as a whole supports one candidate over another is shameful. In the military, Americans from diverse backgrounds and ideological views work together to defend our nation. It misrepresents our military’s values to claim that our military as a whole supports any one candidate or position.

“At the end of the day, what matters is who keeps us safe. The President’s record clearly shows that he has had made the hard decisions and kept the right information secure in order to strengthen our national security and protect our men and women in uniform. There is no credibility to any argument that attacks a Commander-in-Chief who has ruthlessly pursued America’s worst enemies.

“If we want to talk about the real issues, it’s the issues and policies that impact our military, their families and veterans. Sadly, the Romney-Ryan plan would slash funding for homeless veterans, end funding for protections from nuclear terrorism, and cut essential tools from our national security arsenal.”

Mark Jacobson has served as a reservist for more than 20 years including in special operations units and as an intelligence officer in support of Special Operations Forces. As a civilian, he most recently served as Director of International Affairs at the NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan where advised both Gen. Stanley McChrystal and Gen. David Petraeus on a range of foreign affairs issues.
