Mike Derham is the lead emerging market salesperson for Market Axess, a leading platform for the electronic trading of fixed-income securities. Prior to joining Market Axess, Mike was a staff writer with Latin Finance Magazine, covering financial, political and security issues throughout the Western hemisphere. In that role he investigated and authored pieces on money-laundering and fundraising; the political and security implications of economic developments; and the evolution of the political environment in Latin America. He regularly met and interviewed newsmakers, ministers and heads of state. As a member of the editorial staff, Derham chaired and participated in panels of academics, business people and journalists discussing security and economic issues in the hemisphere. Mike has a Masters of Arts degree in International Affairs and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University. He has studied at the SAIS Bologna Center in Italy and additionally lived in Brazil and Argentina. Mike lives in New York City, but tries to visit a new country every year. He doesn’t bicycle as much as he would like. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, and is pleased to have recently discovered that he’s still conversant in Italian.
