Rye Barcott

Rye Barcott is the President and Founder of Carolina for Kibera, and is currently a joint MPA and MBA candidate at Harvard University. Rye graduated with a B.A. in Peace, War, and Defense from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Triangle Institutes for Security Studies Millenium Fellow and a Burch Fellow. Barcott served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps for five years. A captain now in the Marine Corps Reserves, Barcott served combat tours in Bosnia and Herzegovina, eight countries in the Horn of Africa, and Fallujah, Iraq. Barcott is the co-author of the American Anthropological Association Statement on Ethnic Cleansing and co-editor of Armed Conflict in Africa (Scarecrow, 2003). ABC World News named him a "Person of the Year" in 2006.
