Los Angeles: Port Security Visit (Members Only)
Keeping America safe in the 21st Century means protecting ports of entry against terrorism and other asymmetric threats. Across the country, Truman members serve at the forefront of Homeland Security efforts at the local, state and federal level. From counterterrorism to natural disaster recovery, Truman understands that safeguarding the nation’s citizens is government’s first and most indispensable function.
Earlier this month, Truman’s Los Angeles Chapter met with LA Councilmember Joe Buscaino, a native of San Pedro who, in addition to serving on the LA City Council, serves as a reserve officer for the LAPD. Councilmember Buscaino spoke and answered questions about the current challenges facing the Port of Los Angeles, security issues related to the port, and the potential ramifications of the widening of the Panama canal. LA Chapter members then took a boat tour to observe the security and screening process in action.
