As the recent Under Secretary of Defense for Policy at the U.S. Department of Defense, Dr. Kahl oversaw the development of the 2022 National Defense Strategy, championed historic defense initiatives with U.S. allies and partners, and led the department's response to international crises. In recognition of these efforts, he was awarded the Department of Defense Distinguished Public Service Medal.
