Truman National Security Project endorses Oregon Treasurer Tobias Read for election to Oregon Secretary of State and State Rep. Mike Weissman for election to Colorado State Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This morning, the Truman National Security Project proudly announced two new official endorsements: Oregon Treasurer Tobias Read for Oregon Secretary of State and Colorado Rep. Mike Weissman for Colorado State Senate District 28.

“Treasurer Read has a long history of bringing strong strategic leadership to the State of Oregon, prioritizing equity and inclusion, working families, and the environment during his 10 years as a State Representative and 7 years as Oregon State Treasurer,” said Tony Johnson, Truman’s President and CEO.

Among his accomplishments, Treasurer Read has diligently worked to preserve democracy by maintaining the ability to hold free and fair elections. He has fought to protect state tax dollars and ensure they are free from political interference. Additionally, he created OregonSaves, a retirement plan for Oregonians whose workplaces do not offer retirement plans, lead efforts for for-day kindergarten across the state, passed Open Oregon to help students save millions on textbooks and course materials, and works to protect the environment through a plan to bring the Oregon pension fund to net zero carbon emissions.

Weissman has served Colorado to the length of his term limits and now runs for Colorado State Senate District 28. Among his accomplishments, Rep. Mike Weissman passed over 110 bills and resolutions during his eight years as a representative - including legislation supporting affordable housing, public safety, veterans, and environmental protection. “As Representative for Colorado’s House District 36 since 2017, Mike Weissman has prioritized making the community safer, healthier, cleaner and increasing opportunity for all,” said Angelic Young, Truman’s Vice President for Community and Impact.

Both Read and Weissman have been long-time members of the Truman National Security Project and have earned these endorsements through their integrity, expertise, and passion. We know Read and Weissman share our Truman values and will bring those to their respective elected positions - a win for national security.

We heartily endorse their candidacy.
